About the Artist

Herb Edwards career in painting spans nearly six decades from studying art at the University of New Mexico, an MFA from Pratt, twenty years as a professor of art, to the last thirty four years creating and exhibiting his paintings. Herb’s long experience in visual arts is evident in the painterly approach in his Beach Figures series. This collection of paintings is an interpretation of the joys of summer leisure in oil and acrylic. His free use of paint and simplification of composition invites the viewer to recognize the subject as a memory of their own experience.

About the Show

All year long we look forward to summer - a yearly ritual of expectation - over too soon - a few funny snapshots and a cherished memory or two.

So again, against a backdrop of sea, sky and sun, we come to the beach – part public spectacle part private sanctuary. Laden down, we bring our beach chairs and umbrellas, blankets and coolers, shovels and pails, towels and sandals. Our chance for color! We come to enjoy the day and each other, the surf, to run, to sleep, play, read, talk, eat, sleep some more, kiss and laugh.

We come to be part of the summer performance, and to watch the sensual bodies, ( or not ), the old, the young, fathers and mothers, grandparents and kids, our own human theater.
